Mount Arlington will be Flushing Fire Hydrants through 8/13/2017

The Borough of Mt Arlington’s goal is to provide you with premier water service. As part of this commitment, we will be flushing fire hydrants and water mains starting the week of 8/7/17 (Excluding Landing Area and Seasons Glen). The result will improve your service, reliability and water quality.

Here are some important facts about this project:

Discription: Flushing of fire hydrants and water main

Location: Town Wide

Start Date: Week of August 7. 2017 ending week of August 13. 2017 1 week

Working Hours: 11pm to 5am Monday to Friday Mount Arlington Water Dept.

Why Flush the Hydrants?

Periodically, you will see Public Works personnel releasing water from hydrants. Hydrant flushing is necessary to test the hydrants to make sure adequate flow and pressure is available. Flushing is also done to remove sediment from the pipes in order to maintain water clarity and quality in the distribution pipes.

Listed below are a few things to expect:

  • If water is discolored let cold water faucet run for 5 minutes or until water runs clear
  • Try to avoid washing cloths until water is clear, discolored water may stain clothing
  • Water is safe no need to boil
