Brochure Cover PageDesigned by Melissa Majka. daughter of the trip committee chair Jamie Windt.While the actual anniversary for the Hopatcong Seniors Inc. was postponed from last year due to the COVID restrictions, the oldest and most active social group in Hopatcong pulled out all of the stops to make this a very special memorable event for the over 250 members of the Club.

The event included the who’s-who from the State and Local Government as Congresswoman Mikie Sherril, while not present provided a Capital Flag as a symbol of the milestone event, Senator Steven Oroho, took over the room with his outspoken style and grace, as he denoted, “he is finally of an age to join the club.

The high-honors for the Hopatcong Seniors that incorporated in 1970 continued with local representation from Sussex Count Surrogate (Gary Chiusano), Sussex County Commissioners (Anthony Fasano, Sylvia Petillo), Hopatcong Council members (Bradley Hoferkamp, Dawn Roberts), and longtime Senior advocate Hopatcong Recreation Coordinator (Cathy Millian).

Past Hopatcong Mayor and Sussex County Commissioner, Sylvia Petillo captured the essence of the event by saying,

“Our Seniors lead the socialization for the community, as they need to bond and to have opportunities to make new friends and experience new things. Especially as they meet new friends and do it together to have fun.”

Hopatcong Councilmembers Bradley Hoferkamp and Dawn Roberts took the opportunity to thank the Hopatcong Seniors Inc. “We thank you for teaching us so much… The Seniors Inc. is very active in Trips, Cruises, and other events that enrich the lives of today’s seniors.

We Did it 2Hopatcong Recreation Coordinator Cathy Million Concluded the event by stating. “Congratulations on fifty years this is a real milestone. I’m glad we’ve been able to see each other over the last couple of years during COVID.

After the presentations that were full of laughter and kidding that shows the fun-loving nature of the group, Ida Brown Secretary for Hopatcong Seniors Inc. brought the presentations to an end, with the heartfelt statement “WE DID IT!

During the presentations the Hopatcong Seniors Inc. was recognized for the significant achievement and were awarded the following:

  • Flag flown over the Capitol Building
  • Eleventh Congressional Flag Certificate
  • State of New Jersey Senate and General Assembly Citation
  • Sussex County Commissioners Proclamation
  • Borough of Hopatcong Proclamation

Hopatcong Seniors Inc. was established in June of 1970. The club started with 17 members and has changed dramatically over the years. Today we have over 250 active members. Our members take part in the activities and enjoy the fellowship of each other. The club was officially incorporated on February 9th, 1970.

Today’s club is filled with dynamic senior members who enjoy life and take pleasure in the many activities and trips that are planned for the organization.

Interests include cruises, bocce ball, bowling, socials, day trips, casinos, luncheons, parties, dinner theatre shows, and overnight vacations.

Hopatcong Seniors Inc. is a relevant part of the lives of today’s seniors. The club keeps our members active by shaping their experiences and facilitating a passion for fun and simply having a good time.

Looking to Join?: The Hopatcong Seniors, Inc. meets on the first Thursday of the month from February to December at 10:00 AM at St. Judes parish center. You can join as long as you are a Hopatcong resident over 60 years of age.
