During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Mayor Michael Francis talked about the importance of having community resources like the Dog Park, as it adds value to residents living in Hopatcong. Councilman Bradley Hoferkamp who ran point on the project throughout its duration thanked a long list of people and groups that were involved, including the Mayor, Council, Weldon’s Quarry (Donation), DPW, Recreation Department, Open Space Committee and many more.
A special thanks was reserved for 15-year old Hopatcong Scout Aidan Poland who through his Eagle Scout project, turned the park into an exciting and interesting playground for dogs. The entire inside of the small and large dog parks, were designed, built by Aidan Poland and his team. To help fund his efforts, Aiden ran a GoFundMe page to help raise over $3,000.
