Hopatcong Police Department Press Release:

On July 25th at approximately 12:49 pm patrols responded to the Hopatcong Roller Hockey Rink for a report of an injured juvenile.

Upon arrival, patrols found that a five-year-old boy had been accidentally struck in the head with a hockey puck causing a laceration that was bleeding profusely.

The juvenile was extremely pale and not responding to verbal commands.  It was determined that he was in shock.  As officers administered first aid the juvenile’s color began to return and he started responding to verbal commands but still did not appear lucid.  The medics were requested and the medivac helicopter was put on standby.  A short time later the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad arrived and took over patient care.

It was determined that the medivac was needed.  Hopatcong Dispatch and the fire department coordinated a landing zone at Squire Field.  The juvenile was transported to Morristown Medical Center by helicopter for treatment.  The juvenile’s family members were transported to the hospital by the Hopatcong Police for safety reasons.
