Two years later it is ranked No. 6 in the country and headed to the NJCAA National Lacrosse Tournament quarterfinals this Saturday in Batvia, N.Y, to face Genesee Community College.

"These guys are absolute warriors," said coach Steve Manitta. "So incredibly proud of them."

A lot be proud of, for sure.

In a year of firsts, the Skylander offense set a team record for goals in a quarter with 7, while a team defense slammed the door on No. 1 Del Tech to the tune of just 2 goals in the second half to win 21-11 and advance to the game against Genesee, also nationally ranked. Despite being down 9-8 at the half, the Skylanders were not going to be denied. Possessions were plenty for Sussex early on but poor shot selections seemed to doom the blue and grey in the "rubber match" for the right to represent Region XIX. The second half was a different animal all together. The 'Landers found some rhythm in the clearing game and took advantage of quality possessions and timely transition opportunities.

There were heroes galore in the win over Tech. Dom Falleni, the Region XIX Co-Player of the Year, finished with 8 points, while Grant Parker and linemate Joe DeCeglia combined for nine goals. Midfielders Matt Sciancalepore and Blake Dipple both registered hat tricks, while dishing out five assists. Nolan Waldron and Zach Miller added goals while Brian Curley notched a pair of assists. Overall Sussex goals came via an amazing 19 assists. Freshman goalie Collin Miller gathered 13 saves on the afternoon.

"We have had our adversities this year but we've endured," Manitta said. "It's been a challenge."

Challenges, yes, but many rewards. Several players earned Region XIX honors: In addition to Falleni, Parker, Dipple, defender Matt Bruno, and midfielder Matt Sciancalepore were recognized as top performers. Sussex is now looking for the biggest reward imaginable - a team championship.
