Lake Hopatcong Ice Fishing Report

Dows Boat Rental reports the ice on Lake Hopatcong is still between 6 to 8 inches.

They are recommending extreme caution around the shoreline where the ice has thawed and refrozen. Also stay away from the docks with the bubbling systems.

Fishing Report:

Fishing was somewhat slower over the past weekend, but several fish did make their way to the scales:

  • Adik Ackerman caught a 4 pound largemouth bass
  • Lou Marcucci caught a 2 lb. smallmouth bass
  • Kyle Macrae had several nice fish with a large pickerel, a 2 lb. smallmouth, several nice large yellow perch and some walleye. 

Next Fishing Contest:

The Knee Deep Club will hold the second 2018 Ice Fishing contest on Sunday February 11, 2018. The contest will begin at 6 AM and conclude at 4PM.

The contest entry fee is $20.00 for club members and $25.00 ($20.00 fee plus $5.00 non-member fee). Cash prizes will be based on an 80% pay out of entry fees for each of these three categories: Perch/Crappie, Pickerel and all other species (excluding Muskies).

Top finishers will be based on weight and any ties will be broken by which fish was entered first.

Please read the entry form for complete rules, entry forms are available on line at,, or at the Clubs’ official weigh stations located at: Dow’s Boat Rental, Nolan’s Point, Lake Hopatcong, and Lake’s End Marina, Mount Arlington Blvd, Landing.

Mail in entries must be received by Friday, February 9, 2018, in person entries can be made up until 8AM the morning of the contest. In the event the contest is postponed due to unsafe ice conditions, a notice will be posted. For additional information call 973-663-3826.

Take a kid fishing: A contestant may enter a child who is under the age of 16 in this contest for a $5 entry fee. The child with the heaviest fish in each category will win a jigging rod and reel.
