The Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum is honored to host local author Harry F. Martin, Jr. at the museum this Friday evening, May 5, from 6:00 until 7:30PM. Mr. Martin will sign copies of his recently published memoir, I Was No Hero in the Battle of the Bulge. This is a great opportunity to purchase a copy of the book and chat with a member of America’s greatest generation.

Despite vision loss that could have kept him out of the service, Martin was eager to join the Army after high school. He was at first accepted only for limited service because of his limited eyesight, but when additional troops were later needed Martin volunteered, heading to England for training and then France. A longtime resident of Mount Arlington, Harry Martin received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the Battle of the Bulge.

The Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum is located on the grounds of Hopatcong State Park on Lakeside Boulevard in Landing. The museum will be open from 5:00 until 8:00PM this Friday and all exhibits will be open during this special event.  For more information, visit www.lakehopatconghistory.org or call 973-398-2616.
