ROXBURY, NJ (December 21, 2018) – Something to warm your hearts this holiday season was a surprise military visit from 2017 Roxbury High School graduate, Morgan Timper, who stopped by RHS Thursday morning to surprise her younger brother, Jack Timper, a junior at the school.

For more than a month, Jack’s dad, John Timper had been in communication with Assistant Principal Sue Simonet to set up the surprise visit. Both knew doing it around Christmas would be perfect.

In the weeks leading up to winter break, Jack had been told that they weren’t sure if Morgan would be able to make it home for the holidays. “When asked if Morgan would be home for holidays, we would say we don’t know. Originally she was but then she said she couldn’t because she was moved from Missouri to Colorado, so we basically told him that when she went to Colorado her sergeant wouldn’t give her off as it was too new of a transfer,” shared Mr. Timper.

“It was hard keeping the secret though. I’m pretty sure I let it slip a few times,” said Morgan as Jack and Morgan talk just about every day.

The plan was to surprise Jack in the cafeteria during his lunch period. “I stalked Jack to find out where he sat at lunch to make sure we would get in without him seeing Morgan,” explained Simonet.

However, best laid plans don’t always come to fruition because yesterday, Jack decided to go to the library instead. With that change of plans, Simonet brought in reinforcements and sent in Marine and RHS Principal Dominick Miller to distract Jack while Morgan entered the library. Morgan stuck up behind him and wrapped her hands over his eyes. Jack turned surprised while the two hugged each other.

In an interview afterwards, Mr. Timper mentioned that “I think this trumps Jack’s Christmas. It was more important to see her than Christmas.”

Morgan will be home until December 31st and then she heads back to Colorado.

Following her graduation from RHS, Morgan attended County College of Morris before enlisting in the Army in May 2018. She was stationed in Missouri until recently and will be deployed to Afghanistan next year for a 9-12-month tour.
