Roxbury High School Roxbotix robotics team is headed to the World Championships in Detroit, MI on April 25th through the 28th!
It’s been a great competition season so far for the students and their robot! The team advanced to the quarterfinals at both of their local Mid-Atlantic District competitions in Mt. Olive and Montgomery. The opportunity to travel to Rochester Institute of Technology and compete at the Finger Lakes Regional Competition proved to be successful trip, having the team make it to the semi-finals!
The team attended the Mid-Atlantic District Championships at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, placing 16th out of 60 of the top teams in the district on April 7th.
Now the team has the opportunity to travel to Detroit for the FIRST World’s Championship event. Time is short, so the booster club and team are looking to every outlet to raise funds to make this trip happen for the students. Their goal, $10,000 in a short time!
According to Lisa Halbig on the GoFundMe page, “We are trying to make their dream become a reality. These kids and mentors have worked countless hours 5-6 days a week for six straight weeks building this incredible robot.”
Adding, “Our students might not be able to attend due to the lack of funds unless approximately $10,000 is raised by next week. The money raised will be used towards transportation to and from Detroit, hotel fees, and meals for the students.”
You can help the team get there by donating money via check to the Roxbotix Booster Club or by participating in the GoFundMe page that has been set up at https://www.gofundme.com/Roxbotix-4361. Be sure to share the link on your social media page as it too is a great way to support the team!
“Any and all donations are graciously accepted. If the deadline is unfortunately not met, the money raised will be saved for the following year so that next year’s team may attend the World Championship if the team qualifies.”
