Jefferson Elementary School’s Early Act Club in Roxbury Township had a busy November. The club spearheaded two international fundraisers for good causes. As Roxbury Rotarian Steve Alford recently stated at the Early Act summit, “if not you, than who.”

Jefferson’s Early Act Club have taken those words to heart and have put them into action.

The club organized a walk-a-thon during the students’ physical education classes from 13 to the 22 of November, raising over $200 to help Carlos Rojas, an Aramark custodian at the school, ship toys and gifts collected by the Jefferson community to children in his hometown of Manizales Caldos, Colombia.

That’s not all they did! They also helped stuff stockings for soldiers so they too can enjoy this holiday season even though they aren’t home. Items were donated by Post 2833 VFW Auxiliary here in town and stockings were provided with the help of Pete Burke and Nancy Ardis-Wolfe from Picatinny Arsenal. Early Act students spent part of November 22 stuffing stockings which will be sent overseas for soldiers his holiday season.

Jefferson’s Early Act Club is a school-wide service club for the elementary students and is sponsored by the Roxbury Rotary Club.

Early Acts website states, “The mission and operation of Early Act are closely linked to the ideals of Rotary and provide the foundation and natural succession into the Interact Club at the high school.”

The site goes on to say, “Early Act provides young students the opportunity for gaining an increased awareness and knowledge of their community and the world. At a young age, all students can easily be encouraged to be caring and helpful. Their minds are open to recognize the dignity and worth of each individual which builds respect for others. It also engages students in character-building activities and prepares them for leadership roles to identify and carry out projects which benefit their school, local, and global communities.”
