Thirty students from the Eisenhower Middle School Encores co-ed singing group went over to the Senior Center at Horseshoe Lake to perform three songs for the Roxbury Seniors group on Thursday.

EMS vocal music teacher, Jessica Harrison, introduced the music group to a room full of avid listeners.

Harrison shared with the seniors beforehand how the EMS program has grown and the programs she is responsible for.

“This is our fourth year coming to your meeting to sing for you. There are actually five of us. Two band teachers, two choir teachers, and one orchestra teacher. I have the blessing of being these wonderful students teacher. I teach both afterschool music choirs, which is Encores, which is what you see here and we also have another afterschool choir called Harmonies, which is just for us girls. It’s our girl time. This year Harmonies was upgraded. They used to only perform in the winter concert during the year. We now had the opportunity to have them in both the winter and spring concerts. We had a full year program for them this year.”

Students went on to perform three songs: Hope is the Thing with Feathers a poem by Emily Dickinson and music by Kenney Potter, Sing Me to Heaven by Daniel E. Gawthrop, and The Tortoise and the Hare by Darmon Meader.

After performing, students indulged in the homemade goodies provided by the seniors, with some joking “Will sing for food”.

The students from EMS Encores that took part in this event were: Hannah Abat, Marisa Brinkman, Steven Burns, Kendal Cole, Arian Dasappan, Jocelyn DeFuria, Marjory DeOliveira, Jean-Pierre Falquez, Jacob Hachey, Michaels Hills, Jacob Kappes, Paulie Kemmerer, Justin Kurbansade, Seth Lines, Cristian Marrero, Julianne Meneses, Giovanni Moschella, Sophia Moschella, Gabrielle Mutone, Joseph Negron, Amy O’Halloran, Ronald Paddock, David Petrov, Mackenzy Reilly, Sheniah Syrus-McDonald, Joelle Tone, and Rachel VonWyck.
