For over a century, Roxbury High School graduates have answered our nation’s call to defend our freedom, to aid our friends and allies, and to turn back aggressors. Numerous young men and women have traded in the navy blue and gold of the Gaels for the colors of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. They have brought honor and distinction upon themselves and made their school, community, and nation proud.

Eisenhower MS Prepares for 2nd Annual Student Unity Tour

The Eisenhower Middle School’s Character Education Committee is running its second annual EMS Student Unity Tour on Wednesday, May 24th (Rain Date: Thursday, May 25th) at noon at Horseshoe Lake Park to raise money for the National Police Unity Tour.

“The EMS Student Unity Tour began last year and raised funds for the National Police Unity Tour. As a school, we proudly donated $2,500 to the Memorial of police officers who have fallen in the line of duty,” shared Heather Roddy, EMS Physical Education teacher and event coordinator.

Student riders will have the option to ride one lap (1.75 miles) or two laps (3.5 miles) around Horseshoe Lake Park to honor Police Officers that have fallen in the line of duty. The students will be riding alongside local police officers.

All EMS students are invited to participate in this Police Unity Tour as riders or as supporters of their peers. Each rider or student spectator must raise at least $25 in donations in order to participate.

“New this year for those that can’t ride, is an EMS cheer squad. These student supporters will encourage the riders along the route,” explained Roddy.

In addition to the student cheer section, the committee is holding a meet and greet for the students and their families the evening before. When students drop off their bicycles that night, they will have a chance to meet with local law enforcement over some dessert and coffee.

Roddy went on to say, “This year we have the privilege of 17 of the Roxbury Police Officers riding to Washington D.C. to support the memory of the fallen officers. The funds raised will go to the memorial as well as the new museum. Our goal is to surpass the number of riders and contributions we raised last year.”

According to the Police Unity Tour Sponsor Form from Patrick Montuore, CEO and Founder and Harry Phillips, Executive Director, “Every year hundreds of law enforcement officers die in the line of duty. Nothing can ever replace them to their family and friends. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. allows for their memories to live on and honors these men and women forever.”

If you would like to offer support for this EMS event, please reach out to Heather Roddy (hroddy@roxbury.org) and Shannon Rodas (srodas@roxbury.org) at Eisenhower Middle School.

About the Police Unity Tour

The Police Unity Tour Incorporated was formed in 1997 by a group of law enforcement officers from New Jersey who rode their bicycles from Florham Park, NJ to the Memorial in Washington, D.C. with the purpose of raising awareness of those law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and financial support for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum. Since 1997, the Police Unity Tour has grown to include nine chapters and over 2,300 members nationwide.
