The water scouting season has begun!  Thanks to two volunteers from the Knee Deep Club scouting already in the Liffy Island area on June 14, approximately three dozen Water Chestnut plants were located and hand-pulled.

When hand-pulling this aggressive Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS), it is critical to remove the entire plant including the seed pod burrowed in the sediment on the bottom of the lake.  Research indicates these seed pods can remain viable for up to 12 years.  The more plants with the seed pods that are hand-pulled, the less chance we have of Water Chestnut spreading to other areas in the lake.

We are always looking for more volunteer Water Scouts.  More information is available on our website.  To volunteer, just email donna@lakehopatcongfoundation.org.

Print The LH Guide Map funded from a generous BoatUS Foundation grant  is now available and it is FREE.  You can stop by the LHF office or many lakefront businesses and marinas on Lake Hopatcong to pick up a copy.  Since the LH Guide Map is printed on water-resistant paper, you don’t have to worry if it gets a little wet.

In addition to helping with lake navigation, the map includes a list of lakeside businesses, marinas with pump out stations, it also has very important information about invasive species prevention.  Thanks to all of you that voted online for the foundation to get this grant.

To get a supply of the Lake Hopatcong Guide Map just contact the LHF at 973-663-2500.

As first reported by NorthJersey.com

More than 30 residents joined representatives of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation to hear the state’s presentation which was inspired by questions at recent Lake Hopatcong Commission meetings. The commission has no budget and can’t take any action on weed control separate from the harvesting being done by the state.

Updated Hopatcong Lake Levels as of 05/02/2016

As we enter May and the start of the ideal boating season, we find that the lake has only risen to 8.3 feet since the last reading on 04/20.2016. While we are well within the depth necessary, lets hope that the next week that is forecasted full of rain raises the level a little more, just in case of a dry summer.

Note: Members of the site can have this information automatically e-mailed to their account, so they stay in touch with current boating conditions!
