The USGS water level reading at the Landing location was 7.93 this morning, which is the first time this summer the water level has dropped below eight feet.
Past experience on the lake tells us that at 7.7 feet boats will start to have problems getting in and out of marinas, and at 7.5 feet most boating will be impossible. In addition, the low water level will make the already bad weed problem more of an issue.
This low lake level should give special meaning to the NJDEP meeting on September 19, 7:00 – 10:00 PM, at Jefferson High School regarding “Piloting new water level changes to Lake Hopatcong for 2017.”
