The following message from Jessica K. Murphy the President of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation (LHF) came out today that surprisingly postpones multiple events including the Block Party set for May.
Message from LHF President:
No doubt you are all grappling with the many changes that have taken place over the last week or so as the world responds to the COVID-19 pandemic. We at the Lake Hopatcong Foundation have been navigating these changes as well and have several important announcements to share with you all.
- Per the Center for Disease Control advisory, all events of 50+ attendees in the next eight weeks should be canceled or postponed. In following that directive, we are sorry to say that the Lake Hopatcong Block Party will NOT be held on May 9 at Hopatcong State Park.
This is a new development, and our team is working out options as to how to proceed. We will be in touch with vendors, sponsors, and volunteers (as well as those who had hoped to be attendees) within the next few days with our game plan and whether the event can be postponed to a future date.
We are, of course, heartbroken at the idea of canceling what has become such a special community event, but we understand the precaution that must be taken and are hoping we can come up with a feasible alternative. So please stay tuned!
- The LHF Annual Meeting, which was scheduled for Friday, April 3, will also be postponed to a later date, to be determined at a later time. We will spread the word as soon as that date is set.
- In the interest of protecting our staff and volunteers, the LHF office and Lake Hopatcong Environmental & Cultural Center will be closed to visitors indefinitely. That does not mean our work of behalf of Lake Hopatcong is coming to a standstill; our staff has been advised to work from home and only visit the office if necessary. So we will continue to be operational, just not in the office setting we all are accustomed to. Please be patient with any delays in responding to phone calls, etc., while we are working remotely.
- As had been previously announced, the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis presentation scheduled for Thursday, March 19, has been postponed. Other LHF programming scheduled for the spring remains on the calendar but will be revisited frequently as conditions evolve and guidance is provided by health officials. We will do our best to keep everyone up to speed as decisions are made.
None of these decisions is easy or made lightly, but we believe they are in the best interest of keeping our community as healthy and safe as possible. Thank you for your understanding and know that we will be in touch soon as we have more details in order.
