On a beautiful fall day at Lake Hopatcong, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation held it's annual Lake Loop 2019 with over 225 participants, which is the highest in their eight-year history.
The event officially got underway at 7:00 AM under the guidance of chairperson Becky Rubenstein. Right from the start, there was food and beverages that only grew in number and extravagance as the day progressed.
The first event saw the 62-mile cyclists leave the Hopatcong State Park at 8:00 AM, while the ride isn’t an officially timed event, the Foundation uses Strava Timing for the hills, which means that cyclists can compete within these areas for prizes that were awarded later in the day.
Participants were also automatically part of the Lake Loop raffle, that featured a 3-month membership to Black Bear Fitness, or a fold-a-way inflatable kayak with pump and finally a Jamis “Allegro Sport” Bike.
The 9:00 AM timeframe saw the launch of the rest of the cyclists that were doing the 20 and 40-mile courses. The local Skylines Cycling Club was well represented again this year with the help of Matt Lotito and Tom Lentine, who help gather local riders in support of Lake Hopatcong.
Also, the Mayors Corner started at 9:00 AM with representation for all four towns and the Sussex County Board of Freeholders. During their visit to Lake Loop 2019, all dignitaries took time to meet with the public, walk the 5k course, and talk about the health of the lake and what they are doing about the HAB lake issues. See the separate article on the Mayors Corner.
If this wasn’t enough to ensure a great day in the outdoors, the Beer Tent opened at 11:30 AM, the food turned into a hot buffet, and under the live entertainment of Ædan McEvoy, Byrdgrass and the Mr. Joe Show with Joe Biglin from the Irish Harpers.
Thanks to the Lake Hopatcong Foundation for another memorable event, and to all of the participants that help raise funds for the care of Lake Hopatcong.
