Recent NJDEP Testing Results: Hopatcong State Park cannot catch a break

On Wednesday, August 21, 2019, the latest NJDEP testing on Lake Hopatcong showed that while levels dropped by 46%, the levels did increase at the State Park. This comes directly after having two positive tests last week and being targeted for opening. So, swimmers at the Hopatcong State Park will need to wait a little longer.

The better information is that overall, the Harmful Algae Bloom continues to disappear.

From the 08/21/2019 NJDEP Report: “On 8/20, the flight confirms the decrease in the bloom at the 2 buoy stations mid-lake and in the south, but the bloom is still present lake-wide with higher levels in the River Styx Crescent Cove area and in the extreme northern section. This flight shows an increase in intensity from the last flight on 8/9/2019”

It is important to note that all of Lake Hopatcong is open to the public for Boating, Fishing and other recreational activities that don’t involve long direct contact with the water.
