In mid-September the Hopatcong State Park will be filled once again with the thrill and the excitement of National Power Boat Championship on September 16th and 17th.
The races, sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association, are for the New Jersey State Championships, which means that racing teams can earn important points for winning the National title, so expect the boats to go all-out to win this top class event.
The races run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there is a suggested $10 donation for spectators.
For these races, the New Jersey State Power Boat Championships will feature the “Inboard” and Stock Outboard” categories. Competing boats are divided into classes based on hull size, type, weight, engine size, and modifications allowed.
The race length is five miles long, with racers taking five trips around a mile long course in full view of the spectators. As the course at the Lake Hopatcong State Park offers wider turns, while still keeping the boats far enough off shore to keep spectators safe. Plus, the sloped lawn at the state park offers an excellent and unique view of the boats as they come towards the spectators while on the front straight and go through turn one.
