For over a century, Roxbury High School graduates have answered our nation’s call to defend our freedom, to aid our friends and allies, and to turn back aggressors. Numerous young men and women have traded in the navy blue and gold of the Gaels for the colors of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. They have brought honor and distinction upon themselves and made their school, community, and nation proud.

Jefferson Rec brings back spring track for a 10th season!

The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is pleased to announce that the 10th season is offering the program to children in Kindergarten through 8th grades during its 2017 season.

The program will again be part of the Lakeland Junior Track, and Field League established in 1973 and competed against the Denville, Rockaway, Mountain Lakes, Roxbury, and Hopatcong recreation leagues.

Boys and girls are invited to register for this program, which will provide a great opportunity for them, giving them the experience needed if they want to pursue track opportunities in the future on high school teams.

Weather permitting:

  • Kindergarten thru 2nd-grade program will start at 6 pm on Wednesday, March 22 at the Jefferson Township High School Track, 1010 Weldon Road in the Milton/Oak Ridge section of the township.
  • 3rd thru 8th-grade program will start at 6 pm on Tuesday, March 21.

The participation fee will be $100 per student at all levels, and each participant will get a team T-shirt.

Please be advised that there has been a significant increase in the cost of maintaining the spring track program which is reflected in this year’s registration fees. When spring track first began many years ago, fees were based on a program that had volunteer coaches. For the last few years, we have been paying our coaches in order to maintain a quality track and field experience but did not raise the fees to accommodate these expenses. This year, the spring track and field registration fee will partially offset the cost of paid coaches.

Return of some phenomenal coaches!

The 2017 season will see the return of some phenomenal coaches that had run the program in the past. The Kindergarten-2nd grade program will once again enjoy a fun-filled season under the direction of Head Coaches Cheryl Heller and Ken Westburg. The 3rd-8th grade program will be reunited with Head Coaches Sue and James Hannon.

Practices will be held on Wednesdays for the Kindergarten-2ndgraders and Tuesdays and Thursdays for the 3rd-8th graders starting at 6 PM.  The events for the Instructional League for kindergarteners through 2nd graders will include 50 meters, 200 meters, 800 meters, relay, and long jump with meets held on Fridays. Parental help is mandatory at this level and necessary to continue the program.

The events for the 3rd-8th  graders will include 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, mile, shot put, long jump, and 4x100 relays with meets held on Sundays, and parental volunteers are definitely needed to continue the program.
