The Jefferson Township Recreation Department’s Karate Program will begin its next 10-week session on Monday, December 5, 2016, and continue through Monday, February 20, 2017.  There will be no class on December 26th or January 2nd. The program is open to school age children ages Kindergarten and up as well as adults.

This on-going program has been running for 11 years through the Recreation Department with instructors from the Jersey Judo Karate Academy of Kenvil teaching the Isshinryu style of Karate.  The skills learned help students develop coordination, balance, posture, and endurance. Students also gain self-confidence and discipline through progression in karate, while studying the authentic form of Asian Martial Arts. Jersey Judo Karate Academy is run by Sensei Rick Norris, a Kudan (9th-degree black belt), and the Academy’s staff includes over 50 certified, fully trained black belts.

Classes are held at the Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson on Weldon Road at 6:30 to 7:30 pm for grades K- 4th grade and 7:30 to 8:30 pm for grades 5 through adults.  Registration is through the Jefferson Township Recreation Department or by mail; and the office is located at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road and is open Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 4:30 PM and on Friday from 8 am to 3:30 pm.  The program fee is $55 per person with a discount of $5 per person for the second, third, etc. sibling enrolled.
