The Jefferson Arts Committee (JAC) announced its Student Artists of the Month for the month of January 2020. The students who were chosen by their art teachers to be recognized for outstanding work on a class art project were:

  • Ava Friedman– White Rock School
  • Charlotte Ciaburri – Cozy Lake School
  • Adam Pottratz – E.T. Briggs School
  • Matthew Filipov – Arthur Stanlick School
  • Max Grillo, Genesis Santiago, and Ryan Morgan – Jefferson Township Middle School
  • Bailey Hedges and Dominique Hartman – Jefferson Township High School

The JAC’s Student Artists of the Month program was conceived by former president Jack Kelly more than a decade ago to recognize the township’s talented art students. The school district’s art teachers choose one to three outstanding pieces of artwork from their students on a monthly basis and submit them to the JAC where the works are displayed for one month at the Jefferson Township Public Library.

January’s chosen students, accompanied by their families and friends, were invited to the Library for an awards presentation on January 8, and each winner was recognized with a certificate and a medal for outstanding achievement.

Members of the JAC’s Student Artists of the Month Committee who attended the presentation were Chairman Jason Nicholas, JAC member Elisa DeYoung, JAC President Carol Punturieri, and Jefferson Township High School Art Teacher Dave DeVries.

The participating teachers for the 2019-2020 school year are Jennifer Tamayne-Hettema (White Rock, Cozy Lake, and Milton), Karen Frelinghuysen (Ellen T. Briggs and Arthur Stanlick), Denise Morando (Middle School), and Karen Correia, David DeVries, and Renee Simler (High School).
The Jefferson Arts Committee thanks the Jefferson Township Public Library for allowing use of their facility to exhibit the students’ artwork and host the monthly presentations.
