The Jefferson Arts Committee is pleased to announce its Student Artists of the Month awards for February.  According to committee chair Jason Nicholas,  the students chosen by their art teachers this month to be recognized for outstanding work on a class art project are:

  • Damion Smith from Ellen T. Briggs School
  • Casey Cannon from Arthur Stanlick School
  • Kayla Carson and Lauren Pennino  from Cozy Lake School
  • Eric Garv, Paige Recannati, and Geraldine Villalobos from the Jefferson Township Middle School
  • Anthony Argondizzo and Laura Ramierz-Noel from the Jefferson Township High School

The Jefferson Arts Committee's Student Artists of the Month program was conceived by former President Jack Kelly over a decade ago to recognize the talented art students in the Jefferson Township School district.  The art teachers from White Rock, Cozy Lake, Ellen T. Briggs, and Arthur Stanlick Elementary Schools along with the art teachers from the Jefferson Township Middle and High Schools choose one and sometimes two outstanding pieces of art work from their students on a monthly basis and submit it to the Jefferson Arts Committee.  The art work is displayed for one month at the Jefferson Township Public Library and each student and their family and friends are invited to that month's awards presentation where each student is recognized with an award certificate and a medal for outstanding achievement.

In June of that school year, all the art work that was recognized over a seven-month period is displayed in the Jefferson Township High School Library/Media Center where a reception is held for the Student Artists of that school year.  Their family and friends are all invited,  and the Jefferson Arts Committee brings in a guest artist who speaks to the children about his/her art career or hobby and exhibits their own art work.  The district's art teachers are also invited to attend and many display their own personal artwork.  Refreshments are provided for a lovely evening.

Thank you to Jefferson art teachers Jennifer Tamayne-Hettema (White Rock, Cozy Lake, and Milton Elementary Schools), Karen Frelinghuysen (Ellen T. Briggs and Arthur Stanlick Schools), David DeVries, Renee Simler, and Karen Correia (Jefferson Township High School), and Denise Morando (Jefferson Township Middle School) for their participation in this program.
