The Jefferson Twp. Police Department would like to make its residents aware of the Township’s curfew ordinance regarding under age curfew for the Halloween season.
This ordinance applies to Mischief Night October 30th and Halloween October 31st which prohibits anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian to be on any public streets or public place after 9pm. This was enacted to curb vandalism on mischief night and to end trick or treating after 9pm. Many of our neighborhoods receive a high volume of trick or treaters on Halloween and the police department has received numerous complaints over the years The Ordinance 186-1 read as follows:
No person under 18 years of age shall remain in or upon public streets, highways, roads, parks, playgrounds or other public grounds or public places within the Township of Jefferson after 9:00 p.m. prevailing time on the 30th and 31st days of October in each year. No person shall be subject to violation of this provision if the person is accompanied by a parent or guardian of such person or by an adult specifically authorized by the parent or guardian of such individual to accompany said individual for a designated period of time or purpose within a specified area.
Any person found in violation of this chapter shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $200 offense, and a fine not exceeding $500 for any subsequent offense, or a period of community exceeding 10 days, or any combination thereof.
