Scott Malagold thought he wanted to teach college. Then, he thought he might want to be a lawyer. But, he enjoyed a temporary job teaching at a public high school in The Bronx and by his second year of law school knew the law wasn’t for him.

So, by a somewhat circuitous route, Malagold is this year’s Morris County Teacher of the Year.

HOPATCONG -- The high school seniors from the graduating class of 2016 were recognized for their academic achievements with honor cords during Tuesday night's commencement ceremonies.

Traditionally, only students inducted into the National Honor Society wore a gold sash during Hopatcong High School's graduation, but Tuesday night the senior academic standouts wore colored cords -- similar to collegiate honors -- during the ceremony.

Evidently Hopatcong is special with the IRS today. A couple dozen residents have received calls from "them" threatening a lawsuit if they don't pay them immediately (using "Green Dot Cards" from Walmart), Please do not fall for this scam. Do not give any information.

On May 26, 2016, Chief Brennan extended his congratulations for two Hopatcong Police Officers who graduated the Morris County Police Academy today.

Once again the Hopatcong Lake area has the Hopatcong Farmers market to look forward to this summer. Starting June 19th, the market will start its new season with vendors that sell fresh local products, such as locally gown fresh produce and meats.

While the Farmers Market always the same core vendors, each week is different with new offerings that cover everything from fresh honey, tie-died shorts and everything else under the sun.

HOPATCONG -- The borough is getting some statewide attention due to a recently taped segment of News 12 New Jersey's "Spotlight New Jersey."

The 20-minute segment first aired on April 30 and May 1, and will air again on May 7 and 8 at three times: 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Mayor Sylvia Petillo was joined by Marty Kane, president of the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum and chairman of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, and Dawn Roberts, a Gold Star mother from the borough.

The Nicholas Wihlborg Foundation Mission Statement: The Nicholas Wihlborg Foundation is a 501c dedicated to fighting childhood cancer, while supporting children and their families who are impacted by this disease.
