As first reported by the Daily Record. The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing charges filed by Hopatcong police against a man who showed up at the police station in a bunny costume blasting an air horn, and his brother who filmed an ensuing altercation with an officer.
According to copies of the complaints, obtained through an Open Public Records Act request by the Daily Record, Kevin Hemmerich, 28, of Andover, was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, obstructing the administration of law, and resisting arrest.
- Kevin Hemmerich was charged because he blew the air horn and acted in an erratic manner, alarming the dispatchers, according to the complaint.
- Kevin Hemmerich was also charged with resisting arrest, according to the complaint, because he took an aggressive stance known as “squaring up” against Maresca when confronted in the lobby.
His brother, Jason, 21, of Andover, was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, and obstructing the administration of law.
- Jason Hemmerich was charged because he encouraged his brother to continue blowing the air horn even when he realized it was bothering the dispatchers, according to the complaint.
