NJSPCA remove 47 dogs from Hopatcong home

UPDATE: 06/23/2016 -- Charges filed against Lester Vogt, of Bucknell Trail in Hopatcong

Who was charged with a total of 94 counts of failure to provide necessary care of a living animal or creature. The 94 counts break down to 47 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony crime of the fourth degree, and 47 counts of cruelty to animals, a civil disorderly persons charge.

Animal control officers removed 47 dogs, many with severe injuries, from a home in Hopatcong on Saturday.

According to Hopatcong Animal Control Officer Gianna DiMatteo, the dogs living inside the bi-level home on B ucknell Trail were covered in feces and urine in a house that had no power.

"We had received a tip from Hopatcong police that there was this terrible smell coming from this house and that dogs were being neglected," DiMatteo said.
