The Borough of Hopatcong remembered Veterans Day on November 11, 2020, in the large park that is also known by the appropriate name “Veterans Park.” The Borough, with over 100 people in attendance were there to pay their respects to those who have served by providing an exemplary tribute to our military.

The entire event lasted a little under one-hour and finished as the light drizzle that was predicted started, We encourage our readers to watch the attached full version of the event, or watch any of the portions we have provided below.

For one day we stand united in respect for you, our Veterans.

In the opening statements Mayor Michael Francis stated, “The sacrifices that each and every one of these people have given, should be remembered every day.”

We Serve to... Never let you Down:

The statements, were followed up by Lt. Mitch Ellicott. who spoke from the heart as he stated,” Today is about thanking our military and veterans, as they signed up for something they had no idea where it would take them.” He continued with, “For Veterans, this is both a happy and a sad day, as we remember our service, but also those who we have lost. I can assure you that the men and woman of the armed forces will never let you down.”

The traditional wreaths of remembrance were placed in the areas designated, and we encourage everyone to watch this short video of the wreathe portion of the ceremony. A veterans' wreath is a symbol of HONOR, RESPECT, and VICTORY. Each of the 10 balsam bouquets that comprises a veteran's wreath, symbolizes 10 special qualities.

10 Special Qualities

  1. Their BELIEF in a greater good
  2. Their LOVE for each other
  3. Their STRENGTH, work ethic, & character
  4. Their HONESTY & integrity
  5. Their HUMILITY, selflessness & modesty
  6. Their AMBITIONS & aspirations
  7. Their OPTIMISM for America
  8. Their CONCERN for the future
  9. Their PRIDE in their duties
