Sussex County Freeholder Director Sylvia Petillo presented a proclamation to salute the county’s military veterans on Nov. 1, declaring that day in Sussex County as the 20th Annual Salute to Military Veterans.
The proclamation acknowledged Sussex County is home to thousands of veterans, including those who have taken on leadership roles in each of the county’s municipalities. Petillo said each year, the Freeholders participate in a special salute to the county’s veterans, held at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. However, this year, the Freeholders, Sussex County Division of Senior Services and the Veterans Committee collaborated to create a virtual, video salute event. Petillo said the Veterans Committee will begin distributing the videos on Nov. 1, which have been posted to the county’s YouTube and social media.
“We rededicate ourselves to fulfilling our commitment to all those who served,” Petillo read. “The people of Sussex County greatly appreciate the selfless and personal sacrifices of our past veterans and those who currently serve our country both on home and foreign soils.”
The Veterans Committee will provide further information in the near future, Petillo said, about how veterans can access the video and obtain their commemorative pin, given out annually to the honored veterans.
