The following is the full Borough of Hopatcong Council Meeting that occurred on 10-07-2020 through Zoom technology.

The following should be considered the more important community developments for residents:

  • Take Bus to Ribbon CuttingRibbon-cutting at New Hopatcong Solar Field – Celebrates $4M Investment -October 15, 2020

  • Veterans day will be on November 11th at 11:00 AM

  • Fall Trail Hike will be October 24 from 10 -12:00 PM around Liffy Island
  • A location for the Dog Park has been identified and will be disclosed shortly
  • Popcorn is still being sold by Pack 88 (pack88fundraising@gmail.com)
  • The downtown Fire Station will have a new elevator installed making the upper level accessible to the handicapped.
  • The new lights on the Streetscape by River Styx is done
  • Appointment of Pat Mason as Acting DPW Superintendent, and Steve Millian as Supervisor of Trades were approved

  • Seniors Inc is a great organization – Please consider in joining
  • Solar Ribbon Cutting Event has been posted – Important Community Event
  • Volunteer sports are underway
  • Recreation is working on Christmas activities
  • Veterans day will be on November 11th at 11:00 AM
  • Town-wide shred day saw a 280 lbs. increase over last year
  • Hopatcong Town Clean-up Hugh Success – Over 64% Year-over-Year increase in trash removal

  • Fall Trail Hike will be October 24 from 10 -12:00 PM around Liffy Island

  • The Police Fire Range Training Facility is 90%+ done, significant cost savings to police training
  • A location for the Dog Park has been identified and will be disclosed shortly
  • Popcorn is still being sold by Pack 88
  • Hero Boys is starting up for the season

Administrators Report:

  • The old inground oil tank at the first station is being replaced.
  • The downtown Fire Station will have a new elevator installed making the upper level accessible to the handicapped.
  • Paving is almost completed with success from the DPW that did a phenomenal job
  • The new lights on the Streetscape by River Styx is done

Public Comment:

Q: Bidder for 64 Roosevelt Trail put in a late bid, due to technical difficulty

A: Was allowed later in the meeting to place the only bid on 64 Roosevelt Trail

Q: Resident asked about membership at the fire department and an outside town volunteer that wishes to join.

A: The Council voted on and approved ordinance 30-2020 that starts the process

Q: Will the skate park be repaved? What was the cost of the police range? When will the county repave River Styx road?

A: Some areas have been repaved, under budget at about $150,000, repaving was not answered

Bills Paid:

Councilmember Jennifer Johnson asked for bill #20965 to be removed – The rest of the bill list was approved

Mayor’s Comments:

  • For the record we paved multiple roads this year and used 32,277 tons of blacktop, the borough spent about $500,000 on paving and will continue the same next year
  • The Marketplace has been a phenomenal experience and invites the community to visit them each weekend
  • The Crescent cove HAB conditions improve and looks forward to DEP approval for the phase II Bio Blast Phase of the project.
