The Borough of Hopatcong held its Council Meeting on September 2, 2020, through Zoom technology. The following provides key highlights from the meeting and the ability to watch a recording of the entire meeting.

Committee Reports:

  • Hopatcong Borough Template BCM 09 02 2020 MovieThe Community Center is still working with younger families, helping with essentials for those areas, Groups are getting up and running. (Watch Facebook Page) for more information,), Extra Yoga class by a volunteer is being added, looking to add more stress management sessions

  • Ten New Hometown Heroes Banners are being added to the Poles along the main street

  • Hopatcong Market has been a remarkable success – Looking to extend into November

  • Hopatcong Real Estate Committee is open to people that would like to but town property is not needed (Contact Ron Tappan)

  • Town-wide Clean is scheduled for September 26, 2020

  • Rain Gardens Ribbon Cutting (below Sr. Center) is September 12

  • The Halloween Parade is canceled but a celebration will be held at Modick Park

  • Sussex County Expo is scheduled for October 29th

  • School is Starting and buy Popcorn from your Boy Scouts

River Styx streetscape project delay due to Manufacture sending wrong units (their cost)is only being held up by the late paving blocks at this time

Public Comment:

Multiple residents asked questions regarding the following topics. Since the answers were normally given at the end of the public section, please watch this video segment of the meeting to gain a full understanding of the questions asked.

  • Resident asked about the official communications and municipality, as council members have left messages that are negative in character. These Facebook pages have the same logo a Hopatcong Happenings. Who is the editor of Hopatcong Happenings? The editor is not clear on who is responsible for ensuring Handicap Accessible toilets are not are available.

  • An attorney that represents 10 Property Owners requested the status of Ordinance 21-2020, “Partially vacating Riggs Lane Right-of-way. As the Borough may not own Riggs Rd.

  • Resident has an issue with flooding of a Borough Catch Basin owed by the Borough. The basement was filled with water and multiple applications were ruined.

  • Question about the resolution I, and thanked Councilmember Johnson and Reports for supporting Riggs Road tabling, Councilmember Hoferkamp services on the boat Club.

  • Resident placed in charge of Hopatcong Marketplace, indicated the event is a success and would like to extend the season

(Questioned) by Councilmember Johnson and Young as to requirements, and why is needed, and is this a good decision for the community. Is spending money at this point is not a smart decision (cost increase could include by $17,000 annual, more if benefits are delivered).

 

Old Business:

  • Can the regular in-person council meetings start to happen in the future? (Mayor will seek guidance on subject)

New Business:

  • The Hopatcong Marketplace has been extended until November 28, 2020 {Passed}

Mayor’s Comments:

  • The Crescent Cove Drone footage shows the difference on what has happen recently. Meets with DEP on September 13, 2020 in September. And will also keep working on the Tri-foil Gras Carp.
  • Wants to ensure the property value within Lake Hopatcong is maintained.
  • Local Parks to Open soon, details will come out soon
  • Investigating Dog Park at Jefferson Field
  • Last week of September ribbon cutting on Solar Field
  • September 11, Ceremony is Planned
