The unique BBQ Chicken and Ribs restaurant called Lakeside BBQ is now permanently closed disclosed owner Kenneth John today to Hopatcong Lake Regional News. He also indicated that a new Quick Service Restaurant will be opening in the future.
“The volume of business just wasn’t where it needed to be to support both the restaurant and the staff” stated, Kenneth John. “We put a lot of research into both the location and type of food that we felt residents in the area needed.”
The closure comes within the first year of operation, which is a critical time period for small businesses, where over 20% fail according to the Small Business Association (SBA).
According to Kenneth, “When we moved into the area several years ago, we were looking for good BBQ, but couldn’t find anything locally, so we thought why not bring something new into the area. Before opening, we researched the model and met with multiple people that were already running very successful BBQ restaurants.”
Based on our research, we decided on Portuguese Style BBQ cooked over a wood-burning BBQ Pit to enhance the flavor. We also knew that everything should be made in-house to ensure the best ingredients were used and cooked to order to further ensure the best taste.
In August of 2019 Lakeside BBQ expanded its menu to include Hamburgers and Chicken Sandwiches, which according to the owners, “This change has been driven by how popular our pulled pork sandwich has been since we opened, and our effort to make sure that we have something for everyone.”
Social Media comments to Hopatcong Lake Regional News coverage of the restaurant showed the residents positive support during its operations…

New Quick Service Restaurant Coming
This prime location within Hopatcong that housed the very successful Sabretti’s until their move to Roxbury, isn’t staying vacant long.
Owner Kenneth John revealed that there will be a new quick-service restaurant moving in the location. While the final details on the exact timing and the type of food cannot be disclosed at this time. The wood-burning BBQ Grill is part of the transfer, which indicates another possible BBQ / Grill type of restaurant.
High Volume Location: For Hopatcong this is a high volume location that sees 21,500 passing cars a week (based upon the average 7 day week throughout the year).
