The Center for Lifelong Learning at Sussex County Community College (SCCC), a collaboration between the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Senior Services and Sussex County Community College is hosting the following presentations and classes during the remaining Fall 2019 semester.
Presentations and Classes during the remaining Fall 2019 Semester:
Introduction to Drawing. A three-part Introduction to Drawing class will be held emphasizing the development of observational drawing skills and hand-eye coordination. Basic drawing elements such as line, proportion, perspective, composition, texture, and the study of light and shade are investigated through various perceptual and conceptual approaches. The class is open to beginning students as well as those who want to refresh their skills before moving on to more advanced studio courses. It is taught by Professor Michael Hughes who is a practicing artist and member of the Fine Arts Faculty at SCCC. The class will meet on three Fridays, October 11, 18 and 25, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the Art Gallery, Room C106 (located by the entrance to the "B" building).
The course fee is $30.00. Students are required to bring their own drawing supplies. Basic tools should include a large newsprint pad and a very basic drawing kit containing charcoal pencils, graphite drawing pencils, charcoal sticks and an eraser. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.

Marble Tile Coasters. Join Lauren to discover the beauty of tumbled marble and how it grabs the paint as if it was water flowing in a stream. Watch as each tile becomes a piece of art. This class will meet on Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Center for Lifelong Learning, Performing Arts Center, Room A227. The cost is $25 per person. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
Mosaic Surprise. Design a whimsical piece of art with baubles, glass, beads and dishes. It's a surprise, don't miss the mystery! This class will meet on Saturday, November 30, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Center for Lifelong Learning, Performing Arts Center, Room A227. The cost is $25 per person. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
Piano for Life. Join SCCC's Coordinator of Music & Musical Theater, Dr. Deborah Gianuzzi, on the life-affirming path to musical knowledge. Dr. Gianuzzi's "Piano for Life" Thursday classes have been so successful that another day of lessons has been added. A free first class to get a taste of piano and learn some basics will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. Five 30-minute lessons are scheduled weekly following the free class. Pre-registration is required.
Introductory Free Class: Friday, October 11, 2019, at 3:00 p.m.
Personal Lessons: Fridays, October 18, 25, and November 1, 8, and 15, 2019; 30-minute personal lessons are scheduled between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
All lessons will be held in the Performing Arts Center, Room A227. The fee is $100 for five 30-minute lessons. Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course: Lesson Book Level 1 is included in the course fee.
Open House: Be Our Guests! We are celebrating the 4th Anniversary of the active partnership between the SCCC Center for Lifelong Learning and the Sussex County Division of Senior Services in addition to the wonderful work accomplished through this joint effort. Please join us in the Atrium of the SCCC Performing Arts Center on Friday, December 6, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., for a free buffet lunch followed by a musical performance.
Attendees will have an opportunity to meet Senior Services and Center for Lifelong Learning staff and learn about the many programs and services that are available to Sussex County seniors through the Division of Senior Services, the College and the Center.
