Yardley and Petillo to Lead Sussex Freeholders in 2019

The Sussex County Historic Court House in Newton was the setting for the Annual Reorganization Meeting of the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders on Thursday, January 3, 2019. Thursday's meeting saw the swearing in of two new Freeholders, a new Freeholder Director, a Deputy Director and the County Surrogate.        

New Faces for 2019:

Joining the Board for a 3-year term after her victory in November's election is Ms. Dawn Fantasia. Freeholder Fantasia served on the Franklin Borough Council for three years, and was appointed Council President in 2018. She has served on multiple council subcommittees including finance, personnel, public safety, and buildings and grounds. Prior to this, she served on the planning board, zoning board, and was first appointed to the economic development committee in 2014.

Freeholder Fantasia has extensive experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and designing and implementing large-scale programs and services, working in urban education for the past eleven years as both an educator and executive team member in public charter school districts. Dawn has taught English, speech, and theatre, and was named Teacher of the Year in 2010.

Freeholder Fantasia has been a Sussex County resident for thirty years and is a single parent of three children: Maria, Aidan, and Lila.

Also joining the Board for a 3-year term after his victory in November's election is Mr. Joshua L. Hertzberg who previously served as Mayor of Sparta Township.

Freeholder Hertzberg started his professional career working for the Department of Justice, then the Department of Homeland Security, Border Patrol, DEA and other positions at the Department of Homeland Security. Freeholder Hertzberg took an early retirement from the U.S. Government and currently manages the office for International Longshoremen's Association local 1804-1 and is the Director of Business Operations for the International offices of the ILA.

Freeholder Hertzberg states that "by far my most important title is that of husband and father".

Also being sworn in for a second term as Sussex County Surrogate was Gary Chiusano.

New Positions on the Board:

Freeholder Director Herbert Yardley was elected to the Board of Chosen Freeholders on November 7, 2017.

Freeholder Deputy Director Sylvia Petillo was elected to the Board of Chosen Freeholders on November 6, 2016.

Also returning to the Board in 2018:

Freeholder George F. Graham has served on the Board of Chosen Freeholders since April of 2013.

Regular meetings of the Board of Chosen Freeholders are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month (unless otherwise noticed) at 7 p.m., in the Freeholder Meeting Room, Sussex County Administrative Center, One Spring Street, Newton, New Jersey. The public is invited to attend.
