After a summer break from official membership meetings, the Hopatcong Woman’s Club will be reconvening on Wednesday, September 19th at the Lake House Restaurant for its first meeting of season.
This will be a luncheon and will feature a speaker from our State Organization, as we introduce our newly-adopted State Program supporting CASA of New Jersey. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is an organization that strives to ensure the safety and well-being of abused and neglected children and we will be learning more about what we as members, and we as a community, can do to help this worthy cause. Sylvia Pelham and Kathy Wilson are our members who will be heading up the 2-year effort.
Upcoming meetings will be held at the Hopatcong Senior Center on the third Wednesday of the month, and will feature a Touchstone Jewelry Fundraiser in October and a speaker on Organizing in November, who will additionally offer organizing products as another fundraising opportunity.
October will also feature World Food Day (on the 16th). We are asking members of the community, as well as our own members, to bring food donations to our regular October meeting for our contribution to this worthy cause. We are also collecting blank greeting cards (non-religious), which are filled out to thank Veterans for their service throughout the year. Feel free to stop by our 10:30am monthly meetings with any of these items, or to sit in and see if the Club is a good fit for you!
Our ongoing food collection total as of Sept 1st was 2,669 lbs. of food. HWC’s collection bins, located throughout the town for non-perishable donations, help the food pantry, handled by West Side Methodist Church. Current collection sites include: The Hopatcong Post Office, Borough Hall, The Medicine Shoppe, and Santander Bank (no glass please).
All local women looking to form new friendships and to find a special niche or pet project of interest are encouraged to contact Membership co-Chairperson Lisa Hirschfeld at 973-479-9228.
