The storm on social media started with a post on a Hopatcong Residents Facebook page, where the author admitted that her son ran over three cats, and she was so proud of him.

This led to Hopatcong Residents identifying who she was, and where she worked, with several outraged residents going to her work to directly confront her and ensure her manager knew of the Facebook post.

On Tuesday, Hopatcong Police posted the following:

Hopatcong Police: On August 22, 2018 our department received information regarding an incident where a domestic animal was struck in Hopatcong purposely by a vehicle.

This investigation was turned over to Animal Control Officer Gianna Dimatteo. The accused, Vasfije Cain, posted on social media “As he drives mom around and runs over 3 cats maybe people should keep there cats at there house and not on the street so proud of him Eliminating the cat population”.

At the completion of this investigation Cain was charged with 4:22-25.1, hitting a domestic animal and failing to report.

THESE CHARGES ARE MERELY AN ACCUSATION AND THE DEFENDANT IS PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.
