New members were inducted this spring at a recent meeting: Gloria Petrosino, Kathryn Wilson, Betsy Adey and Lisa Hirschfeld are all now official members of our Club, which has been quite busy with projects and fundraisers, all which support our local community.
Our most anticipated annual event just took place at Perona Farms, our 13th Annual Fashion Show, featuring Melania’s Fashions of Randolph. Many thanks to all who participated, it was a fun and profitable fundraiser day, as we held a silent auction, gave out numerous door prizes, and everyone had great food and great fun. A special thank you to Perona Farms, Melania and her staff, and our own committee, led by Mary Jeanne Smith: co-presidents Cyndi Marinese and Marlene Colabella, Ellen Buongiorno, Pat Beach, Sharon Kepler, Lisa Hirschfield, Sylvia Pelham, Cathy Ludwig, Diane Ottman and Norma Rung. Thank you also to all our area businesses that contributed door prizes and auction baskets and gift cards!
Our final meeting of the season will be held May 16th at the Lake House Restaurant. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have events sprinkled throughout the summer where you can find us and participate in our events, even if you aren’t (yet) a member!
May 12th come visit our booth at the Lake Hopatcong Block Party at the State Park, 10am – 5pm, where you and your children can help make cards for our Veterans! Memorial Day we will be marching in the Hopatcong Parade. In July, you can visit us at Hopatcong Days at Modick Park, and also during July, we are hosting two Painted Barn fun craft events at Lafayette Village. Visit www.paintedbarnmarket.com and scroll to HWC Fundraiser, Monday, July 16th 1-4pm or Tuesday, July 17th 6-9pm. Reserving your space is a must, details on the site or call Lisa H. at 973-479-9228.
Going on right now and through the next few months is our Origami Owl Jewelry Online Event. This is truly a unique, customizable jewelry line, mostly made up of charms and crystals inside “living lockets” that you really need to see to experience how special they are. Make a personalized gift for someone you love, and help the HWC earn a % of the profit toward our causes. Elizabeth Osterhoudt is the generous distributor whose site you must go through for this to count: elizabethosterhoudt.origamiowl.com or call/text her at 973-978-8569 for more info.
Our ongoing food collection total as of May 2nd was over 1,400 lbs. of food. HWC’s collection bins, located throughout the town for non-perishable donations, help the food pantry, handled by West Side Methodist Church. Current collection sites include: The Hopatcong Post Office, Borough Hall, The Medicine Shoppe, and Santander Bank (no glass please).
And finally, our guest speaker at our April meeting was Kim Spangenberg, MS, Development Director for DASI (Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Intervention Services) in Newton (dasi.org), who brought us up to date on all the services provided by DASI for those in need. Our ongoing support of DASI includes donations of all sorts, but most recently we held a linens shower, resulting in almost $800 value of linens for use in safe houses and beyond. For more information on what donations can be brought to HWC meetings for DASI, contact Pat Beach at 201-738-0733 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
All local women looking to form new friendships and to find a special niche or pet project of interest are encouraged to contact Membership co-Chairperson Lisa Hirschfeld at 973-479-9228.
