National Drop Everything and Read Day

On Thursday, April 12th the students in Mrs. Mancuso’s second grade class celebrated National Drop Everything and Read Day.

This national celebration of reading is designed to remind families and students about the importance of making reading a priority in their lives.

The event was funded through a Pride Grant sponsored by the Hopatcong Education Association. The grant allowed for the purchase of newly published children's books to be added to the Tulsa Trail Library. Community members were invited into the school to read the new books to small groups of students.

The program began with a video starring the students of Room 16 demonstrating their love of reading. The students then listened to stories and worked in partnerships to write mini book reviews. After the reading portion of the event concluded, a special lunch was enjoyed by all.

A big thank you to Mrs. Rachel Burt from the Sussex County Library for joining the reading event, as well as all of the class parents and community members that helped to make this a successful celebration of reading!
