The Hopatcong Woman’s Club (HWC) has been hard at work this holiday season helping many local organizations in need of donations, both monetary as well as physical items.

The Team at WorkThe Club donated new clothing, cards and money to the Lyons Veterans Healthcare Center. The monetary donation will be used for clients in the Woman’s Trauma Unit. Also donated: new clothing (bras and underwear) and toiletry items to DASI, which aides and houses domestic and sexual abuse victims and their families; 150 gently-use bras to Roxbury Social Services, where they are washed and placed into small bags by size for distribution; knitted baby caps in the color purple, for Prevent Child Abuse-NJ. The purple color is significant in that it represents the ongoing efforts to raise awareness in new parents about the dangers of child abuse. These knit baby caps are given to new parents as they take their newborn home from the hospital and to-date, members have contributed a total of over 600 caps!!

Every December, HWC members package up homemade cookies and Christmas gifts which are distributed to the children of the Head Start Program. This program provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families. Following the December 20th regular meeting, HWC members cheerfully participated in this annual tradition (photos).

As of December 20th, just over 4,200 lbs. of food have been collected by the HWC’s collection bins, located throughout the town for non-perishable donations. Donations help the food pantry, handled by West Side Methodist Church. A big thanks to Norma and Bob Rung, who have taken over the collecting, weighing and distribution of food items from Carolyn and Tom Lynch, who handled the function for many years. Current collection sites include: The Hopatcong Post Office, Borough Hall, The Medicine Shoppe, and Santander Bank (no glass please).
