The Hopatcong School District has embarked on a new endeavor in which meaningful staff-driven professional development was offered during the summer months.
This new PD series consisted of a collection of courses on using G-suite/Google Apps for Education as well as Smartboard Technologies. They were taught by our own Hopatcong Borough Schools staff members. These courses ran during the week of August 21st - August 24th. Each of the courses was broken into 2 classes over 2 days. The classes were offered during the morning and evening for flexibility. Workshops were provided to expand upon staff members’ technological knowledge as the District recently moved towards a 1:1 Chromebook initiative for all students in grades 3-12.
Skills mastered in these workshops include the use of Hyperdocs, Google forms, creating an organized drive, Google Classroom setup, Smartboard lessons/resources and more. Approximately 37 staff members participated in this new opportunity. The workshops received an overwhelmingly positive response.
Hopatcong High School teacher Mrs. Karen Cubberly stated, "I enjoyed the classes offered. I had a lot of fun and feel much better equipped to begin the school year with some of the technology we use." Middle School teacher, Mrs. Sue Hill noted, “I learned more from my PD this past week that will benefit my students, than the PD that we have experienced with outside vendors.”
