As the Borough finished the beloved Hopatcong Days Parade on Saturday, the SABRETTI'S 2017 ANNUAL HOT DOG EATING CONTEST event was held at a new venue on Sunday at the Farmers Market.
|This was a standing room only event, as the Market was packed watching as seven contestants competed for the $1,000 in cash prizes to eat the most hot dogs within a 10 minute period. Different than the Nathans contest, no professional eaters can enter, must consume the hot dog & bun together and no dunking, which made this contest a little more difficult.||
This was an amateur contest, which means that none of the contestants were professionals.
- First Place: 11 Hot Dogs Andrew Priestman from Hopatcong – Won $600
- Second Place: 10 ½ Hot Dogs Stefano Ciudedano from Pompton Lakes – Won $250
- Third Place: 9 Hot Dogs Vincent Costanza from Stanhope – Won $150

Interesting to note: Andrew Priestman’s mother who was present for the contest, declared him as the winner before even the first hot dog was served, stating, “As his mother, I’ve been feeding him for 22 years, trust me he is going to win! “
After the contest, all were treated to Complimentary Sabretti’s T-Shirts, regular Hot Dogs, Hersey Dogs & Water. The Hershey Dog is a local favorite amongst the kids (Sabrett Hot Dog, Hershey Syrup and mini-marshmallows).
In addition, Councilwomen Marie Galate, Mayor Michael Francis and Owner of Sabretti’s, Rohan Shetty all hinted that SABRETTI'S ANNUAL HOT DOG EATING CONTEST may very well continue at Farmers Market since it drew such a big crowd with only 10 days from the public announcement.
Regardless of the chosen venue, we’re already looking forward to the 8th Annual SABRETTI'S HOT DOG EATING CONTEST in 2018.
