On Wednesday, May 24, 2017, the first graders in Mrs. Pagano’s class at Hudson Maxim School delighted their parents with a performance of “American Sign Language in the Classroom”.

The students performed four songs using their voices and sign language.  The students have been practicing for the play for the last six months with the help of community member, Patty Poland. The play was a great tool for helping students build phonemic confidence and learn some sign language.

They also learned about feelings and manners while singing and discussing the words for two of the songs. After the students performed for their parents, they were able to enjoy some juice, water, and a snack with their parents.  Costumes, decorations, and refreshments were paid for by the Hopatcong Educational Association.

The event was enjoyed by students, parents, staff members, administrators and community members.
