For over a century, Roxbury High School graduates have answered our nation’s call to defend our freedom, to aid our friends and allies, and to turn back aggressors. Numerous young men and women have traded in the navy blue and gold of the Gaels for the colors of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. They have brought honor and distinction upon themselves and made their school, community, and nation proud.

Structural home fire off Lakeside Blvd. in Hopatcong brings in units from across the region. Note that traffic is blocked in both directions on Lakeside Blvd in this area until most likely have 7:00 PM.

On Thursday March 16, 2017 at 11:56  a fire broke out in the 200 Block of Lakeside blvd. The home structure fire was on the east side of the road, which is very narrow, and the homes are only accessible through a long set of outdoors stairs.

This caused the Hopatcong Fire department to deploy their crane hose to shoot over the embankment onto the roof of the home. Additional firemen were deployed down the hill to battle the fire from the sides.

Live Coverage photos from the site:

Update: 12:07 PM – First responders from Hopatcong Fire, and EMS arrive on the scene. Luckily they are only a few blocks from this location.

Update: 12:10 PM – Hopatcong fire fighters are dispatched down the hill from the only accessible side (Right of the Structure), and a additional team climbs down the hill from the backside of the structure until the crane hose is in place.

Update: 12:15 PM – Additional units for the regional arrive, and the Hopatcong Crane moves into place to attack the fire from the top of the embankment.

Update: 12:15 PM: Only known injury case is rushed off to Morristown Hospital,

Update: 12:20 PM: Additional crews are added to help contain the fire from spreading to the other structures that are within feet of the primary fire. In speaking to Hopatcong Fire department, their main objective at this point is to keep the fire contained since the homes are very close (100’ apart) in this area. At this time it is unknown if the fire spread to a second home.

Update: 12:53 PM True to the nature of our Lake Residents, there are already neighbors from this area, passing out donuts and coffee to the first responders.

Update: 2:53 PM – Fire fighters believe that they have the fire under control, and have ensured that they have limited the fire from affecting other structures in the area. But, they still expect the road to be closed until after 7:00 Pm as the engines stay on site.

Update: 3:36 PM  The fire is primarily out and the investigators are starting to moe into the area. They expect to be on-site for at least 3-4 hours, which once agin means that the narrow road in this area will be closed until later tonight.

Update: 4:31 PM  Neighbor to the left states, sounded like a gas explosion, while the fire was close it never reached my home. But the siding on that side is melted.

NOTE: While Hopatcong Lake Regional News was on-site during this periond, the updates come from interviews, and the approximate time they occurred from the First Respondors.

Hopatcong Lake Regional News will continue to update this story and we learn more from our on-site location.

Responding units came from:

  • Hopatcong
  • Roxbury
  • Stanhope
  • Netcong
  • Byram
  • Jefferson

As we are interviewing the different departments, most are acting as back-ups at this time, as they are rotated into the works as the other teams tired.
