Wednesday, March 8, 2017 the Hopatcong Schools went on a "Soft Lockdown" due to a suspicious character. Teachers and students were asked to move back into the building as stay there.

Thursday: (9:45 AM) Update from Lieutenant Thomas Kmetz with the Hopatcong Police Deportment.

On Wednesday, Hopatcong Police received a report of a man with a gun on Colby Trail in Hopatcong. The call came from a phone with no number associated with it, so the police are unaware who placed the call.

A very thorough investigation of the area by Hopatcong Police did not find anything suspicious, but as a precaution schools within the area were asked to stay inside.
