More than 33,000 Americans – about 91 a day ¬– died from opioid overdoses in 2015, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. Morris County is hardly immune from the growing epidemic as fatal opiate overdoses in the county rose from 43 in 2015 to 64 in 2016. This year, there have been at least 23 overdoses in less than four months, which is a pace that would exceed last year’s total.

Layups 4 Life was created by Dan Exter, while recovering and laying in his hospital bed, Dan made a promise to himself. That promise was that if he was fortunate enough to make a full recovery that he would be an advocate in the fight against cancer. It was during his recovery that Dan wrote on a piece of paper the idea of creating Layups 4 Life.

Roxbury Indoor Percussion completed their most successful program to date, placing 4th out of nine groups in the Scholastic Regional A Marching Class at the USBands Championships held at South Brunswick High School on Sunday, April 2.

This year, the students pushed the envelope with greater execution and a higher level of performance than our group has ever seen. Twenty-nine students in grades 8-12 participated in this year’s ensemble.

The show was entitled “Energized” and featured original music by Ian Mapes and John Grom. Students create formations across the gym floor with body movements as well to express the show concept. This year, LED lights were even featured on instruments and the uniforms!
