A fire in Mount Arlington caused extensive damage on Tuesday evening at the Audrey Road home to the home of a Hopatcong police officer.

The blaze at the bi-level home at 571 Audrey Road, which tax records show is owned by Nicholas Jr. and Victoria Maresca, was reported at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday. The call from a neighbor came in about 15 minutes after the homeowner and his son left the house, said Mount Arlington police Lt. Ed LaBruno.

The fire is believed to have started between 6:15 p.m. and 6:26 p.m. with an electrical issue in a bedroom on the east side of the house, LaBruno said.

The arson investigation unit, he said, deemed the cause undetermined.

A family dog was rescued from inside the home by a neighbor.
