Rewinding back to April 2017 we asked our over 30,000 readers to vote daily to help the Lake Hopatcong Foundation (LHF) win a $50,000 grant from the USA Today Network. You delivered the votes and as a result of your efforts Lake Hopatcong will have a floating classroom starting in the spring of 2018.

This is a big win for the kids throughout the lake community, as they now will have the opportunity for live “on the lake” education.

Special Thanks goes out to the LHF and Captain Lee for their professional video that helped make this reality.

Giving Tuesday:

In addition LHF is announcing a Special #GivingTuesday Opportunity for Lake Hopatcong

The Lake Hopatcong Foundation (LHF) is, once again, joining the Giving Tuesday campaign, a worldwide day of giving that encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity.

The LHF is dedicated to enhancing life around Lake Hopatcong, while fostering a sense of community among those who live and do business in its surrounding municipalities—Hopatcong, Jefferson Township, Mount Arlington and Roxbury.

Occurring on November 28 this year, Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is intended to inspire people to improve their communities and to make contributions to causes that strive to make that happen.

“Naturally, we appreciate everyone who donates their time and money, throughout the year, to support our efforts,” said Donna Macalle-Holly, acting executive director of the LHF. “Giving Tuesday is simply a way to join people all over the world, on one special day, to make a profoundly positive impact on the global community.”

One of the LHF’s endeavors, worthy of broad support, is a “floating classroom” that will, starting next spring, give students of all ages opportunities to explore Lake Hopatcong, learning about freshwater ecology and how to protect our valuable watershed.

For each $25 given to the LHF through their Giving Tuesday campaign, donors will be encouraged to suggest a name for the floating classroom, each of which the LHF Board of Trustees will consider when choosing a moniker for the vessel.

Those donating $250 or more will be welcomed aboard the newly launched floating classroom, along with 3 guests, to learn about the lake and conduct hands-on experiments while enjoying complimentary wines and cheeses.

Last year, the LHF raised more than $4,000 through the Giving Tuesday campaign.  Notably, this year, if the LHF exceeds the $5,000 mark for their Giving Tuesday campaign (now through December 31), an anonymous donor will match the total amount, up to $10,000.
