Lake Hopatcong claims life of Boater trying to recover hat.

Bo Long from Livingston was out on the lake enjoying a great day on the lake with his family, when everything turned wrong ending in his death.

According to State Police, Bo lost his hat while driving, so he drove back to the spot and jumped in after the hat without a Life Preserver. As he grabbed the hat, unfortunately the boat started drifting away from his position. Bo was not able to swim back to the boat, and started to go under the water.

Several family members dove into the water in order to try and save him, and additionally two Jet Skiers first called 911 and then came to the rescue to try and assist, but it was already too late. Even with the assistance of Jefferson EMS, Bo was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
