Officers were called to Sparta Stanhope Road for a vehicle lodged between two trees. When they arrived, they found a male juvenile in his vehicle about four feet above the ground.
This vehicle was wedged between two trees. The Hopatcong Fire Department arrived and secured the vehicle with chains. They were able to help the driver get out of the vehicle safely. C&L towing arrived and hoisted the vehicle out of the trees.
The 17-year old driver stated he remembers driving and listening to music. He next remembers seeing his hood bent up. Officer Maresca investigated the scene. He found that the vehicle was traveling south on Sparta Stanhope Road. The vehicle crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane. It left the roadway going between two small trees. The vehicle then went airborne and hit a tree head on. The rear of the vehicle rotated. As it came down, it wedged between the trees. Officer Maresca did not find any evidence that the brakes were applied at all. The uninjured 17-year old was taken by his parents. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver’s side air bag deployed. It is unknown what happened to the driver to cause this accident.
