During the upcoming election, residents of Hopatcong will have three new Candidates for consideration for the Board of Education.
ERIN JACOBUS moved to Hopatcong last summer with her boyfriend and his son who just completed his freshman year at Hopatcong High School. As proud first-time home owners, Erin and her family are happy and excited to call Hopatcong home!
Erin has been an office manager for over 10 years at a local accounting firm. Prior to that, she worked for 10 years as the practice manager for a spinal neurosurgeon at UCLA in California. Erin graduated from San Jose State University with a BA in Art History and a minor in History. She also earned an AS in Biology from CCM. A great planner, organizer, and all around go-getter, Erin would love the opportunity to serve on Hopatcong’s Board of Education to advocate for the children.
ROBERT NICHOLSON is a 1992 Hopatcong graduate who returned to his hometown after living in Florida for 9 years. Seeing an opportunity to give back to the community which gave him so much during his childhood, he chose to run for the Board of Education in 2014. Since his election that November and swearing-in the following January, he has worked tirelessly on behalf of our town’s children and the community as a whole.
As a member of the curriculum committee, he worked hard to get the Chromebook initiative successfully launched and helped approve new AP offerings in our district. In 2016, he was named the chair of negotiations and helped usher in a new era of board-union relations. He helped settle each of the outstanding contracts (Teachers, Paraprofessionals and Custodians, Building Administrators, and Secretaries) in short order. Each of these contracts was approved with unanimous votes by the board.
A father to 3 daughters, Robert has been employed with CenturyLink since 2000 and is currently a Business Markets Technician. He is very active in community/regional theatre, has written a novel, and this summer will be premiering a play he wrote based on that novel.
SCOTT FRANCIS moved to Hopatcong in 2007. He and his wife have 3 children; his eldest 2 attend Hopatcong schools and his youngest is excited to join them next year after preschool. For over 15 years, Scott has worked as a financial advisor running his own business helping clients achieve their financial goals. In May, he was recruited to join the leadership team of an NYC firm where he helps others build their businesses and finds this incredibly rewarding.
Scott enjoys having all 3 of his children in the Hopatcong Hawks soccer program, an organization which has become like family. Over the years he’s met many of the great people of this town, including the children who all deserve nothing but the best, and cites this as just one of the reasons he felt compelled to run for the BOE.
Scott wants our town to start talking positively about our schools, to get more involved as parents and as community members, and to share how great they really are. He’s heard people label our schools as lousy and take their children out of our district; he wants you to know his kids, and his family, are here to stay.
Too many have made our schools about taxes and politics. Scott is here to say that all ends NOW. Our children are the new top priority!
