Background of the Farmers Market

It was during the travels of Mayor Michael Frances through Austria, Switzerland, England and Italy, where he found open-town squares with local vendors selling their creations. As he investigated the model, he found that the town provided the space free of charge to the vendors to promote the business and the community.

Using that model as the template, Mayor Michael Frances – Known as one of the founders of the Hopatcong Farmers Market, “We ensured that Vendors were not charged for attending, that’s not right, people are always paying, we’ll just make it available to the community. We need to provide a place where Vendors and the Community can come together on Sunday to socialize, and select from a selection of products to take home.“

Entering Sixth Season

Mayor Michael Frances shared, “This is our sixth season, and I’m looking forward to it as a continued way to help promote the community. For example, we have a new Café, opening in town that will utilize the Farmers Market and an introduction to the public. This allows everyone to get to know them. This is an important stepping stone in business. I’m very proud that we provide this service to our local businesses.”

Mayor Frances further stated, “Without the tireless efforts of Councilwoman Marie Galate and Councilmen Bradley Hoferkamp, our continued operation and expansion of the Farmers Market would not be possible.”
